I have a Dell XPS 15, which is my favorite laptop in many aspects.
I’ve been using it since the review, but HP believes they can outperform it.
Alternatively, I believe HP may be able to defeat it using this right here.
It’s an Envy 15, with an RTX 2060 and an i7- 10750H processor.
It’s also $500 less than this guy’s.
So let’s get started.
It should be OK, in my opinion.
Or perhaps not.
I’m not sure.
Comparing it to an XPS 15 is always dangerous.
This is fantastic.
You can see it straight away, from the beginning.
What kind of power can we expect?
Okay, first and foremost, we have a 200- watt charger.
So, that’s fantastic.
Because this has very comparable specs as the XPS 17, which only has a 130 watt charger that can’t keep up with the RTX 2060 and i7 inside.
However, I don’t believe that will be an issue here.
Apart than that, there isn’t much to see here.
A battery is already installed on your PC.
Before you turn it off, be sure the adapter is plugged in.
I’m sorry, but I’m not capable of doing so.
ENVY 15, here we are.
What is the weight of this?
Given that it isn’t precisely tiny, it seems surprisingly light.
That turns out it weighs 2.1 kilos (4.6 pounds), which is exactly the same as the XPS 15.
It feels a little lighter in my hands now for some reason.
It’s probably less dense and has a very good form.
I believe it’s entirely made of aluminum.
When we open it up, we’ll check whether there’s any plastic, but I believe it’s largely aluminum.
There are a number of ports available to you.
On this side, you’ll find two Thunderbolt connectors, three HDMI ports, a USB type A port, and a microSD slot.
I kind do wish they had a full-
but you get all this other stuff here, so I can’t really complain.
On the other hand, you just get a single USB type A port and a headphone combo connector on this side.
That is a really remarkable IO.
Given how tiny the whole thing is, I’m almost amazed they don’t have little floppy things on the sides, but let’s get started.
There you have it.
It’s a laptop computer.
It boasts an 82 and a half screen-
body ratio, w
hich is extremely impressive.
Obviously, it won’t be as good as the XPS 15, which does have the 16 by 10 resolution, which brings it all the way down here.
However, because it is a 4K OLED touch screen, the screen does have that additional bit of deliciousness.
Even if you aren’t getting the complete 16 x 10 experience, you will be receiving the darkest blacks available on any screen.
So, at first glance, the trackpads appear to be of reasonable size, especially when compared to some of HP’s earlier products, but they’re not as large as those found in the XPS 15.
If we check at the top of this page, we can see that, yes.
It is, in fact, dwarfed.
That said, I believe this is significant enough that, as long as it tracks properly, you should have no problems.
It’s a little bit.
Overall, though, it isn’t perfect.
The rigidity of the chassis is outstanding.
The screen’s real stiffness is rather high.
It’s just the general feel of the laptop.
There isn’t even a hint of a twist.
built, but keep
in mind that this is HP’s Envy lineup, which isn’t quite up to par with top-
tier ball and sp
This is more like you’re making a handful of minor concessions in order to receive something that costs 1500 dollars.
At first glance, it appears to be expensive, yet what you’re receiving appears to be enough.
Oh, I hadn’t noticed it before.
Instead of transmitting power through USB C, there’s a barrel connector right here.
So that’s a minor annoyance.
Because one of the things I enjoy about some computers is their stability, such as the option to plug in right there or charge it from the other side.
But, at the same time, we have a 200-
watt power bric
k that won’t drain your battery life when you’re performing heavy lifting.
Oh, the supporters are definitely making their presence known.
OLED displays are just stunning.
It never fails to amaze me.
To be honest, this is one of the worst showcase backgrounds I’ve ever seen.
I’m not sure if you’ll be able to get it here, but it’s grainy and horrible, and it makes the OLED screen appear far less impressive than it actually is.
When you look at these symbols, you’ll notice how sharp and flawless they are.
Whereas everything up here seems as if whomever made it just pulled the ice out and said, “Let’s try to get something better there.”
Now I’m completely perplexed.
I’m not sure if something is wrong, but the screen appears to be practically dusty in several places.
I suspect it’s a screen issue, since I’ve seen it on some of Razor’s and Dell’s earliest OLEDs.
They have a lot of strange artifacts.
I believe it has something to do with how the pixels are aligned.
I’m going to get a microscope and return with it.
I really want to figure this out.
Okay, so it appears that this is the identical Samsung panel that we saw on the other Dell and Razer laptops that I discovered to have a similar issue.
So let’s take a look under the microscope for a while.
So now we can see the pixels that make up this display.
And I’m interested if they’re cheating or if the real OLED pixels are simply too small for my proximity to the panel.
If there are a number of little black patches, you can see them extremely clearly.
Also, the blue pixels are significantly larger, followed by more red and green pixels, as I believe your eye is more sensitive to those frequencies.
Brandon, does that make sense?
Let’s take a closer look at the XPS 15.
So you can see, even though this is at the same magnification as the previous one, that there’s a lot less overall space and gaps on the Dell.
So I believe the filthiness I’m seeing on this screen is merely a product of the way the panel is set up.
So it turns out that the screen door effect was the source of my difficulty.
When you’re too close to a monitor, you can see individual sub pixels instead of your brain, leading you to believe it’s a solid color.
This is quite frequent in virtual reality headsets.
The individual pixels on the ENVY’s OLED display are much smaller and have a lot more black space surrounding them than the Dell XPS’s IPS panel, as shown in the microscope film.
The OLED panel seemed dusty while showing solid colors due to this, as well as subpar grey uniformity.
To get back on track, let’s take a look at something you could really do with this instead of simply staring at a grey screen.
However, it does not appear to be as nice as I had hoped.
I’m assuming it’s not a problem at all.
“Oh yeah, this looks awesome.” you think once you start viewing something.
So in a darker environment like this, where there’s a lot of darkness and only a few rays of light, the image really stands out.
Because it’s like staring at a screen through a camera on your screen, you won’t actually be able to see it.
That’s most likely not an OLED, but it looks fantastic in any case.
Just take my word for it.
When it’s not just a complete screen of primarily solid colors, yes.
You can’t tell that they cheated a little with the blue pixels.
I’m hoping these speakers are as amazing as the ones in HP’s little 13-
but we’ll have to wait and see.
The clarity is amazing at first.
Yeah, that’s true.
That appeals to me.
Oh, the Dell is superior.
That didn’t last very long.
However, this is still fantastic.
It just lacks the profundity of the Dell, and the Dell loses points as a result.
So it’s probably somewhere around third place, which isn’t awful.
The trophy is still on the podium.
As a result, we won’t be doing any comprehensive benchmarking.
If I had to guess, it will be similar to the XPS 15 and will be similar to CPU benchmarks.
So, rendering is what you’re talking about.
It will operate similarly to Photoshop and most video editing if you wish to use it for both.
When it comes to GPU benchmarks, the HP ENVY 15 will undoubtedly outperform the XPS 15 since the 2060 is just more powerful.
That is a fact, and it is also less expensive.
But, in any case, I’m looking forward to examining the cooling system in this scenario.
They appear to have just taken the cooling system from their HP OMEN gaming laptops.
So, let’s see how it goes.
That is, without a doubt, aluminum.
It’s not a really sturdy item, but it’s still rather stunning.
This is especially true given the item’s cost.
In any case, the upgradeability appears to be excellent in this case.
So this is where we have our single M.2 SSD.
Then there’s easy expansion for another one on this side.
You receive an 83 as well.
to be precise.
So that should enough.
They say that the battery will last for 18 hours.
If I had to estimate, it would be 10, 10, 9 or something like.
Is there a RAM upgrade available right now?
Yes, we do.
There’s one, and there’s another directly underneath it.
But the true star of the show is right here.
In fact, I’m going to remove it.
I’m done with it.
From all the way up here, we have a huge old vapour chamber that runs over and across their cool CPU and GPU.
I’m really amazed that HP managed to pack a large old vapour chamber into such a low-
Oh, I’m doing things in the wrong sequence.
So, it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in.
Wow, that’s a little strange.
It appears that they threw in some extra heat sync features here.
That has nothing to do with anything.
It must just be so that when you open it up, it has a more uniform look, or something fantastic like that, but the true star of the show is this guy right here.
It’s incredible that they were able to put vapour chamber cooling into such a compact laptop that isn’t aimed at games.
It’s great to see the gaming notebook influence creeping into professional designs like this.
So you’re able to truly, like, grab that power and really harness it in ways that were previously considered “Yeah, whatever.”
Because it isn’t a gaming laptop, you won’t receive nearly as much power.
Yes, it’s amusing in a way.
This is a fantastic tiny laptop, in my opinion.
It’s incredible that they were able to pack so much power into something so little and also into something that works.
Guys, it’s not cheap.
It is not inexpensive.
It’s 1500 dollars, but it’s also 2100 dollars, and it’s not as quick.
So there you have it.
It all depends on what you’re searching for in the first place.
I wouldn’t say one is always superior than the other, but this is an excellent alternative.
If you’re just searching for a good old Windows computer to accomplish everything, like and subscribe.
Yes, have a wonderful day.
I’m preparing to open up another another powerful laptop.
