What's New in Windows 11?
Hello, everyone.
Windows 11 brings a lot of new visual changes and refinements to Windows overall, so I thought we'd go over all the major changes and features as many of you have requested since the windows 11 insider preview was released earlier this year. This will be available as a free update to Windows 10 users later this year as long as you meet the system requirements.
These needs may change in the future, since many people have expressed dissatisfaction with them because they do not necessarily meet all of them. However, Windows 10 works very well with these requirements, which are a one gigahertz or faster processor.
64 gigabytes of storage and four gigabytes of RAM
TPM 2.0 secure boot
support as well as visuals that are DirectX 12 compliant
If you fulfil those criteria, you should be fine to start. I'm presently running this on a custom-designed computer that I constructed myself.
If we go into settings, we can see that it's an AMD ryzen 7 5800 x with 32 gigs of ram and a rtx 3090 graphics card, so that's what this is currently running on. The first thing to notice is that the start menu or start bar is now in the middle of the display. This can be customised or changed back to the left h.
They've also put rounded edges to everything, so if we click on start, for example, you'll see that the corners are rounded and there's a lovely sort of design
This looks more like an android app launcher for example, where you have your pinned apps here with some new icon designs as well, and then if you want to see all of your apps, you click on all apps now and you can scroll through all of your apps alphabetically, so that's an updated change and something they've updated with the start menu itself, there are no longer any live tiles for example below.
See more of that information or different recommended applications or documents you might have opened. You also have your power menu here where you can restart or shut down for example now on the desktop you can see that we have a nice background there are some new themes that I'll show you in a moment but if we right click on one of the icons such as microsoft teams which is also new and installed on every Windows 11 computer, so we'll right_click and notice that it's been changed just a little bit. You can cut, copy, rename, and delete, so this is updated as you'd anticipate with the theming to match the rounded edges and your obvious distinct characteristics
Things like that that are related to this specific application, so that hasn't changed much, it's just a visual overhaul now the next icon, as you can see, is search, and if I click on search, you'll see that we have type to search, and then you have your top apps and recents, and things like that, so that's pretty much what you'd expect before your recent searches or things you've opened.
As you can see, we have control panel, and all of the old ways to manage a Windows computer are still here, running in the background. If you want to go from little icons to categories, for example, you can do so. They haven't removed any of them yet; they're still here if you prefer stuff, but they've just visually updated everything to make it a little bit easier to use so the next thing here is if we click on this, we can create a new desktop with a different background and theme or different programmes, or we can close that off.
Switch between them very easily so you have that option as well just to switch between multiple desktops if you prefer to use your computer that way the next icon is widgets they're bringing widgets back to windows and so as you can see I have the weather widget suggestions calendar and esports and then you can customise the size of these with small medium or large or remove them all together Of course, you can add a widget, and there will be more in the future, but if we want to add tips and sports, you can do so, and we can resize these to match, so maybe make it medium.
Everything is now in sync, so they've updated this with your news, similar to the live start menu before where you could get live news and things like that, but now it's a widget pane to the left where you can search the web, and if you have a touch screen, you can slide in from the left and use that as well, so they've updated this just to make it really nice, and as you can see all of it is now in sync, and as you can see Even for an early build, all of the transitions and movements are incredibly seamless. Now, something that they've been talking about a lot is called snap layouts, so if we go into microsoft edge for example.
Within edge, if we hover over the maximise bar, these are all snap layouts that are the most commonly used layouts now, just like before, we can drag the window up to the top to make it full screen, we can drag it back, we can drag it to the left to snap it to the left or right, and all of those things are still available, but the most commonly used layouts are available here, so maybe we want to go to the far left with this one, then we'll open up chrome and hover over this and place it in the top right, and then we'll open up the microsoft store and put this one in the bottom right, so you can just snap things anywhere you want.
Also, if you connect an external monitor to a Surface laptop, the layout is remembered when you plug it in, so if you have an external monitor connected to a Surface laptop, it will remember this when you leave and it won't just rearrange everything for you and have windows all over the place, so it's nice that they've added that, and if we close these and go back You'll notice that it returns to its previous position, indicating that it remembers those layouts. The next item you'll notice down here is the file explorer, which has been changed slightly to reflect what we had previously, such as rounded corners.
Windows 11 Insider!
The more recent icons
Of course, everything you'd expect is still present, including the new icons.
Let's close that out, and settings has been substantially modified and made much easier, so instead of the control center, we now have settings, and you can see all of your settings here. You can still access anything the old way if you're used to it, but on the left you can see all of your settings.
Everything is organised by Bluetooth and devices, network and internet customising apps, gaming accessibility, privacy and security, and Windows Update. Windows Update has also been improved, not just to be faster but also to have lower installations. They said they'll be updating this on a yearly cycle as far as new features, so not twice a year anymore. That's a visual change, and I like the consistency they're showing throughout the OS. For example, when you go into display, everything is very consistent in what you'd expect, such as scaling and resolution, so that's been updated as well. Now, personalization follows the same themes as before, so if we move to a light theme, everything shifts to a light theme as expected, and if you want to change the theme here, you have more possibilities to add your own wallpaper.
For example, sounds, and of course, there are new sounds.
There are many colours and everything is changeable, as you would imagine, so you have a variety of backgrounds to choose from.
You have glow, which you can see, then you have caught motion, which you can see, and then you have flow, which is just a variation on the light and dark theme you've already seen than f
inally, you have this one, which is called sunrise, and it looks like this, so they're all quite gorgeous with matching themes once again. You'll notice some minor changes and glitches here as I have to mouse over some of these options, but for an early build, it's working quite well now. Of course, if we click on our clock and date here in the bottom right, we get our notifications as expected, and if we click on the little updated volume icon, we get some larger buttons for wi.fi and
For example, Bluetooth has
been upgraded with rounded corners to match the overall look, as well as attractive animations throughout, so you have those alternatives.
You also have a security panel that displays security at a glance, similar to what we had in Windows 10 if we had a virus.
Now they've updated the microsoft store and this one's quite major so not only do we have our gaming with xbox game pass, but we also have auto hdr like we had on the xbox series x where it will take the different graphics from the games that aren't by default set up for hdr and sort of enhance those areas to make them look a little bit nicer that's built into windows 11 but the biggest change I think is that you can use android apps within windows 11 through the amazon store now google play may bring this later on that's up to google but you can see if we go here and click on tick tock you have this available.
You can install it on Windows 11 and use it here by default, regardless of what processor you have, whether it's an AMD processor like this one or an arm processor on a Surface X for example, so this should work on all the different platforms natively and you'll be able to use all these android apps as they're released for the device, so hopefully we'll see a lot more of those They're also encouraging different firms to bring their apps here, such as Adobe, and they're not charging a lot to do so, so they can put their own app stores here as well. They've also improved touchscreen support voice. Pen support with various haptics, for example, and as I previously stated, there are all of the older features here that you would expect from before. For example, if you go to the start menu and right click on it, you'll see that we have device manager, disc management, and so on. The only difference is that it now has rounded corners and fades in and out as you would expect are here that you're used to using maybe windows terminal for example or computer management it's all here just like you're used to if you need to admin this computer so it's a really nice update mostly visual with some nice changes just for usability I think people have been using this at home quite a bit and realising that it has some downfalls with windows 10 they wanted to fix it so it's a really nice update mostly visual with some nice changes just for usability I think people have been Make it a little nicer by updating it.
There are additional minor changes throughout Windows 11, and they'll continue to update this as it gets closer to its final release. If there's anything else you'd like to see about this, let me know in the comments below of course, if you don't already have it, I'll link it in the description, as I always do. If you haven't already, please subscribe, and if you loved the blog, please like it. As always, thanks for watching, this is Kunal Katke, and I'll see you next time.
